Chester County Developer Supports Connection Project

Pennhurst, LLC joins growing group of “Trestle” supporters

The Riverfront at Royersford development project continues to progress with a number of extremely exciting and significant advances. Big things are on the horizon for the transformational development on the corner of Main Street and the Schuylkill River.

What can be revealed is, Royersford Borough has made serious strides in reducing vacancies and improving the quality of commercial and retail offerings along their section of Main Street. There’s progress on the Spring City side as well.

These communities are hoping to enjoy a new connection via the transformation of the defunct train trestle into a showpiece pedestrian and cyclist bridge, connecting Montgomery and Chester County.

The Trestle will join Riverfront at Royersford to the Schuylkill River Trail just east of the Pennhurst property in East Vincent Township.

Pennhurst, a former state hospital facility, is now home to the Southeastern Pennsylvania Veteran’s Center and an adjacent 111-acre parcel owned by Pennhurst, LLC, a progressive group that purchased the property three years ago.

Pennhurst, LLC is the latest contributor to Save the Trestle, a community-based fundraising campaign administered by the Schuylkill River Greenways National NHA, the group that maintains much of the popular Schuylkill River Trail. An ambitious committee of stakeholders has been advancing the trestle project with everything from promotions and studies to applying for grants.

“We’re excited by the synergy of an area neglected for decades,” says Derek Strine, President of Pennhurst, LLC and a member of the Save the Trestle committee.

The development of Riverfront at Royersford and the administration of the Save the Trestle campaign are both being spearheaded by Lewis Development, part of The Lewis Group whose headquarters are located within the Riverfront at Royersford complex.

The renewal or, at least sustainability of communities has been linked to the presence of a trail network providing wide ranging recreational opportunities to residents.

“We are grateful to have the support from Derek and the Pennhurst development project,” said Rick Lewis, President of The Lewis Group. “The plans for the Pennhurst property will help to transform our region and the trestle represents both a symbolic and literal linking of communities and as well as two counties.”

Strine met Lewis when Pennhurst, LLC hired Lewis Environmental to undertake site remediation at the Pennhurst site.

Royersford, Spring City, East Vincent Township and the state are all working together with private companies like Pennhurst, LLC and the Lewis Group to improve the regional economy and the trestle is emblematic of the collaboration.

“Support is the key to progress,” says Strine. “Everyone involved wants to make things better than they were and better for everyone.”
